To celebrate our busy, successful summer this year, we decided to take a beautiful August afternoon to have a staff day on the lake. What better place to enjoy each other's company, soak up some sunshine, and have some laughs?
We collaborated with Dave Rose, Director of Operations of Sproat Lake Landing to organize our fun-filled day. For those of you unfamiliar with Sproat Lake Landing, it's one of BC's finest full-service resorts located fourteen kilometres west of Port Alberni and 100 kilometres east of Tofino on Highway 4. Enjoyed by both tourists AND locals alike, they've got the perfect set-up for our local and visiting fishermen, boaters, and outdoor recreation enthusiasts. It's said that one of the biggest reasons that drivers pull over en route to Tofino, is to indulge in the locally roasted coffee, hand-scooped island gelato, and renowned breakfasts served up in the Dellas Cafe and Grocery! Following an active day on the lake, guests can sit back and relax in Drinkwaters Public House for a glass of wine and the ultimate West-Coast culinary experience. Guests can stay overnight in the ruggedly charming Sproat Lake Inn located above Drinkwaters. Don't have your own method of transportation around the lake? Not to worry - Sproat Lake Landing even offers guided tours around the lake on the DrinkwaterIV Tugboat!
To kick off our day, we fueled up with a delicious meal and a celebratory cheers at Drinkwaters. All of the dishes we sampled were delicious, but we particularly loved the Drinkwaters Short Rib Burger - beef patty, braised short rib, caramelized onion, cheddar cheese, and arugula on a brioche bun. And that homemade ketchup? To die for! This restaurant not only boasts outstanding lake views, but the menu offerings are carefully considered and showcase our local West Coast cuisine beautifully.
We then headed out on the tugboat for an informative tour of the lake. The staff really know their stuff! They even stopped the boat in the middle of the lake, so we could kick off our shoes and cool off with a quick dip in the clear, sparkling waters. (Don't worry Mom, over half an hour had passed since we ate lunch!) It's neat to think that Sproat Lake is located right in the heart of Vancouver Island... literally the #middleofeverywhere. After an afternoon of belly laughs and sharing stories, we were ready to unwind on the giant adirondack chairs outlooking the lake.
The service and smiles provided by the entire Sproat Lake Landing and Drinkwaters team were amazing, and truly made our staff day one to remember. A huge THANK YOU to Dave and team of Sproat Lake Landing for your hospitality. Check them out on Facebook for updates on their events.
