Between boating on Sproat Lake, biking Log Train Trail, trekking to Della Falls, and reaching the summit of Mount Arrowsmith, outdoors enthusiastic from all over Vancouver Island are drawn to Port Alberni to explore, have extraordinary experiences and make memories. For a full list of outdoor activities in the Alberni Valley, visit the Alberni Valley Tourism site here. If sampling wine at Chase & Warren Estate Winery, or visiting the Rollin Art Centre and the Maritime Discovery Centre are more your style, you’re in luck. Port Alberni has a vibrant art and culture scene and is home to a variety of historical sites and museums. Find more information on these here.
In addition to the attractions and activities, we’ve highlighted a few events happening this spring and summer in the Alberni Valley that you won’t want to miss!
At the end of May you’ll see some heavier biking traffic on the streets, as May 30 – June 5 is Bike to work (or school) week! Register here.
You may already know we think stand up paddle boarding is pretty cool from our recent social media contest, so this event had to get on the list! The ACDC SUP Challenge happens on June 4. Racers paddle 9km from China Creek beach to Canal Beach. Register here.
One of our favourite family celebrations is Canada Day. The Port Alberni Folk Fest Multicultural Association hosts the 39th Annual Folk Fest on July 1, as well as various other events happening around the Alberni Valley, like the Canada Day parade.
If you want to kick it up a notch, on August 6 the streets of Port Alberni welcome hot cars and smoking races for Thunder in the Valley – Port Alberni drag racing event.
