Our year-end holiday season is a great time for festivities with our loved ones, and enjoying winter activities in our community. Traditionally recognized as a quieter time in real estate, more and more savvy buyers and sellers are catching on to the seemingly hidden benefits of jumping into the market this time of year.
If you’re wondering if you should wait until the New Year to shop for your new home, here are some things to consider.
House hunting during the holidays brings with it some advantages, including less competition with others buyers (also freeing up some attention from the professionals involved in the transaction – all eyes on you!). Less competition means lower prices and fewer or no counter offers.
Here are our top Five Top Tips for holiday house hunting:
Ask to see photos of the house during other times of the year, especially the summer. This will give you a sense of the house all year ‘round.
Be flexible – it is the holidays and many people involved in helping you look for and purchase a home will have commitments with family and friends, so be patient and flexible with schedules.
Take advantage of “off-season” prices. The holidays are not a popular time of year to put a home on the market, so when sellers do they are typically very motivated to sell and for a quick sale. As a buyer, your money can certainly go the extra mile!
Beat the investors. Most investors aren’t looking during the holidays. This broadens the market for buyers and decreases the chances of being outbid by the savvy investor.
Relax and don’t worry if you don’t find a home before the holidays. The New Year is right around the corner and more listings will be popping up shortly!
